Middle School Reading Bowl
Purpose: To prepare students for a reading bowl competition organized by Greater Atlanta Christian School. Reading Bowl is a fun, dynamic class designed to cultivate a love of reading and strengthen literacy comprehension in a fun and challenging competition prep environment. Official book list will be released at the start of Fall semester. Please note: Although the books are selected by a Christian organization, some may explore themes such as witchcraft, coming-of-age journeys, or elements of war and violence. General Course Objectives: Students will be required to read a total of ten books over the Fall semester that vary from 250-300+ pages. One book is completed every 2/2.5 weeks. Fun weekly quiz questions will be used to engage and prepare students. The class culminates in a competition held at Greater Atlanta Christian School at the beginning of Spring semester. Only one team of 5-6 students will represent DCHE at the official competition. All students will have the weekly opportunity to prepare for the competition, but the top six students who demonstrate consistent commitment throughout the Fall semester—by completing all class assignments and reading all ten books—will advance to the official competition at Greater Atlanta Christian School.
